Via Rail service resumes after Bowmanville train derailment

Via Rail service between Toronto and Montreal and Toronto and Ottawa has resumed Sunday after a CN freight train derailment Saturday in Bowmanville.

Speed restrictions at the site of the derailment and possible railway congestion are expected to cause delays for rail commuters.

On Saturday, a CN freight train derailment near Oshawa interrupted service to and from Toronto, forcing Via Rail to suspend routes to and from Ottawa and Montreal beginning at 2:15 p.m. ET.

Canadian National Railway spokesman Jim Feeny said Saturday that no injuries were suspected in the incident.

Customers should be aware Via Rail trains delayed by more than an hour are applicable for a travel credit.
