Russian Opposition Politician Calls Ukraine Invasion a 'War Crime' in Council Speech

A Russian opposition politician recorded herself condemning Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in a public district council session on March 22.

“I consider what is happening a war crime,” Nina Belyaeva, a deputy of the Semiluksky District Council of the Voronezh Region in western Russia, said in a speech to the council, according to a machine translation of her remarks.

“There is no real proof that Ukraine was planning to attack our country,” she continued, referring to Russian claims that the invasion had thwarted a plot by Kyiv to attack Russia.
