St John's Blizzard Creates Perfect Urban Skiing Conditions

A recent blizzard in Newfoundland left record snow accumulations in St John’s, burying cars, disrupting transport, causing power cuts – and creating awesome conditions for urban skiing.

Footage shared by St John’s resident Florence Kennedy on January 18 shows one of the snowboarders who took the the city’s hillier streets.

“A state of emergency had been declared, so only emergency vehicles and snow clearing machines were on the roads,” Kennedy told Storyful – perfect for those who wanted to make the most of the fresh powder.

“As you can see,” she continued, “city snow clearing had not yet taken place on Holloway Street. I looked out the window, and saw some snowboarders, so I stood on the patio of our house, and took the video.” Credit: Florence Kennedy via Storyful
