Vine Launches ‘Shazam-Style’ Music Discovery Tool

Short-form video network Vine is set to take on Shazam with a set of new music-centric tools.

Vine, which is owned by Twitter, has introduced a ‘Featured Tracks’ tool that enables users to discover what song is playing in a video clip, similar to the function that music identification app Shazam is most famous for.

The update also includes a new tool called Snap to Beat which enables users to create ‘seemless loops’ of music.

Previously, only the most techie users were able to loop the soundtrack perfectly within the videos, but now Vine has made it easier for everyone to achieve the same effect using the app.

Until now, Vine has focused mainly on visual elements, allowing users to create seamless 6-second videos.

“By focusing on how your Vines sound, you can make better Vines, and share new music for the world to uncover,” says a Vine blog post, announcing the new features.

The new music discovery features are available from today on iOS and Android, while the new music looping tool is currently limited to iOS.

More than 200 million people watch Vines every month, according to Google Analytics.
