Vivica A. Fox says she's negative for COVID-19, after positive test bumps her from Emmys show

Vivica A. Fox is celebrating after a professional COVID-19 test came back negative for the virus Monday, the day after she was compelled to pull out of Sunday's Emmy red carpet coverage due to a positive test.

Fox suggested in an Instagram post Tuesday that the original COVID test was a false-positive.

"On Friday, I took a self-administered COVID-19 test and as many of you are aware it came back positive," Fox wrote on the Instagram post. "Two days I took another COVID test, this one administered by a medical professional and I'm thrilled to announce (that) last night my results came back NEGATIVE!"

"I'm feeling great, and I want to thank everyone for their show of love and support," she added.

In her Instagram stories, Fox wrote "Dawlings! Always get tested by medical professionals."

USA TODAY has reached out to Fox's rep to find out if there will be a third test, and for any further comment.

Fox, a special correspondent, and longtime E! host Giuliana Rancic both had to be replaced at the last minute for E! network's "Live From the Red Carpet: The 2020 Emmy Awards" due to positive tests. E! representatives declined to comment on Fox's statement.

Filling in for them on the show were Brad Goreski and Nina Parker.

Rancic, 46, released a video message saying her entire family had tested positive for the virus during preliminary testing for the show. She said she, husband Bill, 49, and 8-year-old son, Duke, were recovering at home.

"I do not take missing an award show lightly, but unfortunately this year is just so different," Rancic said. "As part of E! and NBCUniversal's very strict testing guidelines, especially before an event like this, I did find out that I tested positive for COVID-19. Now as much as I didn't want to hear that, I'm very thankful I heard it before I traveled and possibly could have exposed other people. So for that, I'm thankful."

Rancic continued, "As far as my health, I'm doing well. My husband, Bill, and our son (Duke) also did test positive, but we're all doing well and taking care each other so I'm going to get back to doing that. But I just want to say I'm wishing you all the best and please protect yourselves and protect those around you. Take good care and I'll see you on the next red carpet."

Fox had announced her absence Sunday through a statement read by Goreski.

"During these unprecedented times, it's more important than ever that we follow all safety and health rules and guidelines to protect ourselves and each other. I'm sending my very best to Nina and Brad, who I know will hold down the fort. And congratulations to all tonight's nominees! I look forward to seeing everyone again soon!" the statement said.
