Here are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer boys high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Ben Carroll, Indian Land Cross Country: The Warriors’ junior ran a 19:30.80 to win the 5K at Lancaster Sept. 14.

Carroll’s run also led the Indian Land cross country team to victory in the same meet, beating Andrew Jackson, Lancaster, Richard Winn Academy and York.

Andrew Caudle, Palisades Soccer/Football: The Pumas’ senior scored two goals in a 5-1 win over Berry Sept. 12.

Palisades (3-5) also lost 3-0 to Myers Park Sept. 13.

Caudle also played for the Palisades’ football team (2-3) with three extra points, a 33-yard field goal and four touchbacks on kickoffs in a 38-6 victory over Berry Sept. 14.

Noah Guggenheimer, Charlotte Latin Soccer: The Hawks’ senior scored the game-winning goal in overtime and had two assists in a 4-3 win at Providence Day Sept. 12.

Guggenheimer also had both goals in a 3-2 loss at Covenant Day Sept. 14.

Guggenheimer return to the Charlotte Latin soccer team this week after missing his junior year (ACL) and the first part of his senior season with a broken collarbone, according to Hawks’ soccer coach Kyle Searles.

Logan Hill, Charlotte Catholic Cross Country: The Cougars’ senior ran a personal-best 16:09.70 to win the Pfeiffer University Invitational Sept. 16.

Hill’s run also helped the Charlotte Catholic boys’ cross country team to a third-place finish in the 23-team field.

Tanner Hodges, Union Academy Cross Country: The Cardinals’ senior ran an 18:59.91 to win the 5K at a Union Academy home meet Sept. 12.

Hodges, who won the race by nearly 45 seconds, also led the Union Academy cross country team to a three-point victory over runner-up, Gray Stone Day.

Spencer Matondo, North Mecklenburg Soccer: The Vikings’ senior had the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win over Hough Sept. 11.

Matondo also had a goal in a 4-1 victory at Harding Sept. 13.

Matondo has five goals and one assist for North Mecklenburg (4-4) this season.

Matthew Micolucci, Pine Lake Prep Soccer: The Pride senior scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Mountain Island Charter Sept. 11.

Micolucci also scored two goals in a 4-0 victory over Lincoln Charter Sept. 13.

Micolucci has seven goals and three assists for a Pine Lake Prep team (5-3-1) that has won four straight games this season.

Chase Owens, Gaston Day Soccer: The Spartans’ senior scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Carmel Christian Sept. 12.

Owens followed that up with two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Christ the King Sept. 15.

Owens has nine goals and two assists for a Gaston Day team that is still unbeaten at 7-0 this season.

Payton Popp, Mooresville Soccer: The Blue Devils’ sophomore scored a goal and had an assist in a 3-2 win over Porter Ridge Sept. 11.

Popp has 10 goals and six assists for a Mooresville team (7-1) that has won six straight games.

Pate Robillard, Lake Norman Soccer: The Wildcats’ junior scored three goals to lead Lake Norman to a 5-1 win at Watauga, Sept. 12.

Robillard also scored his team’s lone goal in a 1-1, double overtime tie with A.L. Brown, Sept. 14.

Robillard has seven goals and one assist for a Lake Norman team that is still unbeaten at 7-0-2 overall this season.

Austin Skeete, Providence Day Cross Country: The Chargers’ junior ran a personal-best 16:50.98 to finish 12th overall at the Queen City Invite, high school race at McAlpine Creek Park Sept. 15.

Skeete’s finish also helped the Providence Day boys’ cross country team to victory at the same event.

Colden Welsh, Covenant Day Cross Country: The Lions’ senior ran a 15:41.83 to win the Queen City Invite, high school race at McAlpine Creek Park Sept. 15.

Welsh was .03 off his personal-best time, when he ran a 15:41.80 at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg Sept. 2.
