This week’s Nominees

Logan Ades, Christ the King Track: The Crusaders’ senior finished as runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:07.38), the 1,600 (personal-best, 4:38.03) and the 3,200 (personal-best, 10:11.15) at the Catawba Shores’ 1A/2A conference championships at Mountain Island Charter May 5.

Ades also led the 4 X 800-meter relay team to a conference title to earn the most valuable runner honors at the meet.

Ades is a Campbell University commit.

Braedon Chayes, Pine Lake Prep Lacrosse: The Pride junior attacker had five goals and two assists for Pine Lake Prep in 20-5 win over Cornerstone Academy in the second round of the 1A/2A/3A state playoffs May 4.

Chayes, a Saint Joseph’s University (PA) commit, had 74 goals and 20 assists for Pine Lake Prep (10-7).

Hayden Chicon, Lake Norman Lacrosse: The Wildcats’ junior attacker scored five goals and had one assist to lead Lake Norman to a 19-2 win over West Forsyth in the second round of the 4A state playoffs May 4.

Lake Norman was 19-3 overall through Monday.

Sterling Greene, Olympic Track: The Trojans’ senior ran a personal-best 10.82 to win the 100-meter dash at the SoMeck 4A conference championships at Palisades High May 3.

Greene also ran a personal-best 21.89 to win the 200-meter dash at the same meet.

Greene’s efforts helped the Olympic boys’ track team to a runner-up finish at the conference championship.

Logan Hill, Charlotte Catholic Track: The Cougars’ junior won the 800-meter run (1:59.27) and the 1,600 (4:34.19) at the Southwestern 4A conference championships at Garinger High May 3.

Hill also helped the Cougars’ 4 X 800-meter relay to victory (8:24.52) and the 4 X 400-meter relay to a runner-up finish at the same meet.

Wesley Jones, Charlotte Christian Baseball: The Knights’ senior pitcher tossed a two-hitter with strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound to lead Charlotte Christian to a 7-1 win over Charlotte Country Day.

Charlotte Christian (20-10) also won 15-0 at Charlotte Country Day (May 4) and 4-0 at High Point Academy (May 6).

Jones, a Charlotte 49ers’ signee, is 5-3 with a 1.04 earned-run average (ERA) with 73 strikeouts in 60.1 innings through Monday.

Chase Kiker, Metrolina Christian Baseball: The Warriors’ sophomore pitcher tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight batters while not allowing a run in a 7-0 win at Hickory Grove in the Metrolina Athletic conference (MAC) championship game May 4.

Metrolina Christian also beat SouthLake Christian 9-3 in the MAC semifinals May 2.

Kiker is 10-2 on the mound with a 1.28 ERA in 60.1 innings of work for a Metrolina Christian team (22-3) that has won 12 straight games through Monday.

Brady Knutson, Myers Park Lacrosse: The Mustangs’ sophomore scored four goals and had two assists to help Myers Park to an 18-5 win over Cuthbertson in the first round of the 4A state playoffs May 2.

Knutson also had a goal and three assists in a 12-9 loss at Marvin Ridge in the second round of the playoffs May 5.

Knutson finished with 14 goals, 23 assists and 25 groundballs for Myers Park (8-10).

Jacob Laney, Porter Ridge Track: The Pirates’ senior won the 1,600-meters (4:18.16) and the 3,200 (9:22.76) at the Southern Carolinas’ conference (SCC) championships at Weddington High May 3.

Laney, a University of North Carolina commit, also finished as runner-up in the 800-meter run (1:57.42) at the same meet.

Laney helped the Porter Ridge boys’ track team to a fourth-place finish at the SCC championship meet.

Spencer Mermans, Charlotte Country Day Track: The Buccaneers’ senior threw a 168-7.5 to win the discus at the Last Chance Classic on his home track May 6.

Mermans also threw a 54-8.5 to win the shot put at the same event.

Mermans is a Yale University football commit.

Ethan Miles, Providence Lacrosse: The Panthers’ senior attacker exploded for 11 goals and three assists in a 22-15 win over Southwest Guilford in the first round of the 4A state playoffs May 2.

Providence (11-6) also lost 18-6 at Charlotte Catholic in the second round of the playoffs May 5.

Miles Miller, Charlotte Latin Baseball: The Hawks’ junior outfielder had two critical hits this week to lead Charlotte Latin to a two-game sweep of Cannon School.

Miller had a two-RBI double in top of the seventh inning, with his team trailing 6-5, to help Charlotte Latin to an 8-7 win at Cannon School May 2.

Miller also had a grand-slam home run in the fourth inning, with his team down 5-2, to help lead the Hawks to another 8-7 win over Cannon School May 4.

Charlotte Latin is 4-15 overall this season.

Reece Morgan, Cuthbertson Track: The Cavaliers’ senior ran a personal-best 21.42 to win the 200-meter dash at the Southern Carolinas’ conference (SCC) championships at Weddington High May 3.

Morgan also ran a 10.94 to win the 100-meter dash, SCC title the same day.

Morgan, a University of North Carolina commit, ran a 50.33 to finish as runner-up in the 400-meter run at the SCC championships.

The Cuthbertson boys’ track team won the SCC title.

Chris Peal, Providence Day Track: The Chargers’ senior ran a personal and school-record 10.57 to win the 100-meter dash at the Last Chance Classic at Charlotte Country Day May 6.

Peal also posted a personal and school-record 23-8.5 to win the long jump at the same event, where he also helped the 4 X 100-meter relay to victory.

Peal is a University of Georgia football commit.

Oliver Tobin, Charlotte Christian Golf: The Knights’ junior shot a two-over par, 74, to win medalist honors at the CISAA conference championships at Providence Country Club May 2.

Tobin’s efforts also helped the Charlotte Christian boys’ golf team to their first CISAA title in school history at the same meet.
