Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer girls high school athlete of the week.

This week’s Nominees

Jenna Beyerle, Hough Cross Country: The Huskies’ freshman ran a personal-best 14:28 to win the Mallard Creek High Two-Mile Preview race at Mallard Creek Aug. 22.

Beyerle’s win also led the Hough girls’ cross country team to a third-place finish.

Anne Bradley Bing, Gaston Day Volleyball: The Spartans’ junior had 38 assists, 14 kills and two blocks in a 3-2 win at Hickory Christian Aug. 22.

Bing also had 33 assists and 20 kills in a 3-2 loss to Laurens Academy (SC) Aug. 24.

The next day, she had 18 assists, 14 kills, 10 digs and eight aces in a 3-0 win over Westminster Catawba.

Bradley had 89 assists, 38 kills, 53 digs, 13 aces and seven blocks in three games this week.

Gaston Day is 5-2 overall this season.

Morgan Boonshaft, Providence Day Cross Country: The Chargers’ senior ran her first race (on Aug. 26) since winning the NCISAA state titles in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs (outdoors) as a freshman after “a tough road battling through many injuries,” according to Providence Day cross country coach.

Boonshaft not only competed but won the Carolinas’ Kickoff girls’ varsity 5K championship race at Metrolina Christian Aug. 26, running a personal-best 17:51.30, besting her previous best by nearly six seconds.

Boonshaft’s efforts also helped her Providence Day girls’ cross country team to victory at the same meet.

Reagan Chisholm, Mallard Creek Volleyball: The Mavericks’ senior had 17 kills, nine digs, and two aces in a 3-0 win over Hickory Ridge Aug. 22.

Chisholm also had 23 kills, 12 digs and two aces in a 3-1 loss at Palisades Aug. 24.

Chisholm has 107 kills, 60 digs, 11 aces and eight blocks for Mallard Creek (1-4) this season.

Lucy Curtis, Myers Park Field Hockey: The Mustangs’ junior goalkeeper had nine saves in a 1-0 win over Charlotte Latin Aug. 22.

Curtis followed that up with 17 saves, including some critical saves in overtime and in the shootout as Myers Park outlasted Providence Day, 3-2 in extra time Aug. 24.

Myers Park is 2-0 this season.

Luci Falls, Lake Norman Charter Tennis: The Knights’ sophomore won her singles’ match 6-0, 6-0 in an 8-1 win over Central Cabarrus Aug. 21.

Falls won 6-1, 6-0 in singles and 8-0 in doubles to help Lake Norman Charter to a 9-0 sweep of South Rowan Aug. 23.

The next day, Falls won 8-1 in singles and doubles in a 8-1 victory at Hickory Ridge.

Falls is undefeated in both singles and doubles for Lake Norman Charter (6-0) this season.

Paisley Freda, Pine Lake Prep Golf: The Pride freshman shot a one-over par 37 to earn medalist honors in the first high school match of her career at Mooresville Golf Club Aug. 22.

Freda had six pars and a birdie, including a chip-in for par on hole No. 8 in her round.

Freda’s play helped her Pine Lake Prep team to victory in the six-team, Catawba Shores’ Athletic conference match.

Jordin Glass, Davidson Day Volleyball: The Patriots’ junior middle blocker had 15 kills, four blocks and three aces in a 3-0 win over Community School of Davidson Aug. 22.

The next day, she had 10 kills, three aces and one block in a 3-0 sweep of Forsyth Country Day.

Glass finished off her week with 15 kills, four blocks, three digs and two aces in a 3-1 victory over Cannon School Aug. 24.

Glass has 76 kills, 26 blocks and 19 aces for Davidson Day (8-1) this season.

Camellia Holland, Lincolnton Volleyball: The Wolves’ senior had 17 kills and 13 blocks in a 3-1 win over Cherryville Aug. 21.

Holland also had eight kills and three blocks in a 3-0 sweep at Thomas Jefferson Academy Aug. 22.

Holland has 41 kills and 32 blocks for Lincolnton (5-0) this season.

Elle Louise Kocmond, Providence Day Field Hockey: The Chargers’ senior scored two goals as Providence Day won 6-0 at Weddington Aug. 23.

Kocmond, University of California Davis commit scored the game-tying goal in a 3-2 loss to Myers Park in game that went into two overtimes and a shootout.

Providence Day is 1-1 this season.

Sanaa Mohammed, Charlotte Country Day Volleyball: The Buccaneers’ freshman outside hitter had 10 kills, 10 digs, five aces and two assists in a 3-1 win over Metrolina Christian Aug. 21.

Mohammed also had 14 kills, six aces and four digs in a 3-0 sweep of Carmel Christian Aug. 24.

Alexsandria Washington, Rocky River Volleyball: The Ravens’ sophomore had 13 digs, three kills and three blocks in a 3-0 loss at Julius Chambers Aug. 21.

Washington also had 11 digs, 10 kills and two blocks in a 3-2 win over Berry Academy Aug. 22.

Washington has 24 kills, 18 kills and seven blocks for Rocky River (3-3) this season.
