Below are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Justice Alexander, Concord Academy basketball: The 6-foot-1 eighth-grader scored 19 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and added four steals in a 44-37 victory over Northside Christian on Jan. 23.

Alexander also scored 23 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 65-26 win at Metrolina Christian on Jan. 26.

Alexander is averaging 20.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.6 steals for a Concord Academy team (18-2) that has won nine consecutive games this season.

Tyler Baughan, Community School of Davidson basketball: The Spartans’ senior point guard scored 27 points, grabbed two rebounds, and added nine steals, two assists and two blocks in a 66-15 win over Mountain Island Charter on Jan. 23.

Baughan scored 22 points, had four rebounds, four assists, and nine steals in a 60-21 victory over SouthLake Christian on Jan. 25.

The next day, Baughan scored 14 points, had six steals, three rebounds, one assist and one block in a 44-42 win at Lincoln Charter, to secure first-place in the Catawba Shores’ 1A/2A conference on Jan. 26.

Baughan is averaging 16.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 7.8 steals and 2.7 assists for Community School of Davidson (17-1).

Kaiya Bond, West Cabarrus basketball: The 5-11 sophomore scored 26 points, had five rebounds and five steals in a 66-52 win over A.L. Brown on Jan. 22.

Bond scored four points in a 61-35 loss at Hickory Ridge on Jan. 23.

Bond finished off the week with 12 points, nine rebounds and five steals in a 43-40 victory over South Iredell on Jan. 26.

Nina Dominique, Charlotte Christian indoor track: The Knights’ junior ran a personal and school-record 39.51 to win the 300-meter dash at the Providence Day Turn Up Polar Bear on Jan. 25.

Dominique is the defending NCISAA indoor 100-, 200- and 300-meter dash champion.

Lauren Grose, Charlotte Catholic indoor track: The Cougars’ senior jumped a personal-best 17-3 to win the long jump at the Charlotte City Championship at Cuthbertson on Jan. 27.

Grose also went 36-10 to win the triple jump at the same event.

Grose also won the long jump (16-11) at the Marvin Ridge Polar Bear on Jan. 24.

Lily Hermans, Concord swimming: The Spiders’ sophomore swam set a school and conference record at 24.75 seconds to win the South Piedmont conference title in the 50 freestyle at Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatic Center on Jan. 23.

Hermans’ time broke a seven-year-old school record and four-year confernece mark.

Hermans also won the league title in the 100 freestyle at the same meet.

Camri Hobbs, Jay M. Robinson basketball: The 6-3 sophomore scored 32 points, had four rebounds, five steals and one block in a 57-21 win over Carson on Jan. 23.

Hobbs also had a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 66-30 victory over Concord on Jan. 25.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln basketball: The 5-9 sophomore scored 30 points, had eight rebounds, seven steals, three assists and three blocks in a 88-68 win at North Lincoln on Jan. 23.

Montanari also scored 31 points to go with six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block in a 70-46 victory over Hickory on Jan. 26.

Montanari is averaging 20.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, six steals, and 2.4 blocks for an East Lincoln team (17-1) that has won 11 straight games through Monday.

Nia Poole, Providence Day indoor track: The Chargers’ star ran three personal bests to win the 55-meter hurdles (9.50), the long jump (18-7) and triple jump (40-0.5) at the Providence Day Turn Up Polar Bear on Jan. 25.

Poole is a Penn State commit.

Alexis Shehan, Lake Norman basketball: The 5-11 junior scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and four steals in a 74-37 win at rival Mooresville on Jan. 23.

Shehan also had 21 points and eight rebounds in a 59-53 victory at Hickory Ridge on Jan. 25.

Shehan is averaging 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals for a Lake Norman team (16-1) that had won eight straight games through Monday.

Autumn Washington, Ardrey Kell basketball: The 5-11 sophomore scored a school-record 37 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a 63-57 win over South Mecklenburg on Jan. 24.

Washington had another double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 57-46 victory over Cuthbertson on Jan. 26.

Washington has college basketball interest from Charlotte, Davidson, East Carolina, Furman, Louisville, N.C. A&T, Queens, Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth, according to Ardrey Kell coach LaTavia Dixon.

Washington is averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds per game for Ardrey Kell (14-4).

My’Asia Young, Mallard Creek basketball: The 5-9 sophomore scored 32 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had four steals in a 79-38 win at West Charlotte on Jan. 26.

Young is averaging 9.4 points per game for Mallard Creek (14-3).
