Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer girls high school athlete of the week.

This week’s Nominees

Tyler Baughn, Community School of Davidson Soccer: The Spartans’ junior forward scored all four goals in 4-3 win over Mountain Island Charter April 4.

Baughn, a Campbell University commit, has 16 goals and two assists for Community School of Davidson (6-4-2).

Morgan Brotherton, East Lincoln Soccer: The Mustangs’ senior attacking midfielder scored a goal on senior night to help East Lincoln to a 2-0 win over North Lincoln April 5.

The next night, Brotherton scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Hickory that gave the Mustangs first-place in the Western Foothills’ 3A conference.

Brotherton has five goals and two assists for East Lincoln (9-2-2).

Lily Houston, Northwest Cabarrus Track: The Trojans’ junior went a personal-best 11-6 to win the pole vault at the West Wolverines’ meet at West Cabarrus High April 5.

Houston’s vault is tied for third-best in the state so far this outdoor season.

Charlee Kelly, Lake Norman Softball: The Wildcats’ pitched three innings with four strikeouts, earning the win on the mound in a 17-2 victory over A.L. Brown April 4.

Kelly also pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, allowing only one hit in a 9-1 win at West Cabarrus, April 6.

Kelly is 3-3 on the mound with 54 strikeouts in 40.1 innings, while boasting a 2.95 earned-run average (ERA).

Blane McElroy, Providence Day Soccer: The Chargers’ sophomore midfielder scored three goals and had one assist in a 9-0 win over Cannon School April 3.

McElroy also had a goal in the 2-1 win over Charlotte Latin April 5.

McElroy has six goals and 12 assists for Providence Day (11-2).

The Providence Day girls’ soccer team is ranked No. 5 in the nation, according to maxpreps.com.

Aubrey Rose, Hickory Ridge Soccer: The Ragin’ Bulls’ freshman goalkeeper had four saves and a shutout in a 1-0 win over South Iredell April 4.

Rose also recorded a shutout with eight saves in a 1-0 victory at Lake Norman April 6.

Rose has 61 saves, allowing 1.3 goals per game, for Hickory Ridge (8-2-1).

Julia Schattner, Cannon School Lacrosse: The Cougars’ sophomore midfielder and draw control specialist had nine draw controls, four goals, one assist, four caused turnovers and nine groundballs in a 15-7 win over Charlotte Christian April 6.

Schattner also had four draw controls, five groundballs and two caused turnovers in a 19-2 loss to Providence Day April 4.

Schattner has 48 groundballs, 18 caused turnovers, 47 draw controls, 16 goals and four assists for Cannon School (5-5).

Skylar Smith, North Gaston Softball: The Wildcats’ sophomore went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI in an 8-7 win over Stuart Cramer April 5.

Smith also went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a 12-0 win at South Point April 4.

Smith started the week by going 2-for-3 with a double in an 11-0 victory at Bessemer City April 3.

Smith is batting .550 with a home run, six doubles and 23 RBI for a North Gaston team (10-3) that has won five straight games.

Jasmine Stokes, Rocky River Track: The Ravens’ senior won both the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 15.92 and the 300-meter hurdles in another personal-record 46.34 at East Mecklenburg April 5.

Stokes is a Winthrop University signee.

Andi Stroud, North Iredell Softball: The Raiders’ went 5-for-5 with a triple, six RBI and three runs scored in a 19-5 win at West Iredell April 4.

Stroud was also 0-for-3 in a 19-3 loss to Fred T. Foard April 6.

Stroud is batting .459 with 14 RBI for North Iredell (9-4).

Maddie Sturgill, Cannon School Softball: The Cougars’ junior had 14 strikeouts and earned the win allowing just five hits in 10-0 win over Providence Day April 4.

Sturgill also went 1-for-3 with a RBI at the plate in the same game.

Sturgill is 6-3 on the mound with 61 strikeouts in 54.2 innings of work with a 3.20 ERA and is also batting .367 at the plate for Cannon School (7-4).

Taylor Suarez, Ardrey Kell Soccer: The Knights’ junior scored all four goals in a 4-2 win over Myers Park April 6.

Ardrey Kell also won at Palisades 9-0 April 4.

Suarez has 15 goals and eight assists for Ardrey Kell (11-2-1).

Suarez was invited to the U.S. Soccer U18/U19 Women’s National team training camp in Cary over spring break, where she will look to make the 21-player roster for the U20 CONCACAF Championships in May.

Ella Tracy, Marvin Ridge Softball: The Mavericks’ sophomore went 2-for-6 with a double and the game-winning RBI in the top of the 13th inning as Marvin Ridge outlasted rival, Weddington 3-2, on the road April 4.

Tracy followed that up by going 5-for-5 with three home runs, a double, a triple and seven RBI in a 20-10 victory over Cuthbertson April 6.

Marvin Ridge is 13-2 overall this season.

Alexis Willis, Stuart Cramer Track: The Storm senior won the long jump (18-1.5) and the triple jump (39-3) at the Gaston County Championships at Ashbrook High April 5.

Willis also finished as runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 15.96 at the same meet.

Chloe Woodward, Hickory Ridge Softball: The Ragin’ Bulls’ junior outfielder hit a leadoff triple to spark a five-run inning that led to the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning as Hickory Ridge won 8-2 at Mooresville April 4.

The next day, Woodward hit a walk-off, three-run home run to give Hickory Ridge a 3-0 win over Piedmont.

Woodward is batting .179 with two doubles, two triples, a home run and 10 RBI for Hickory Ridge (13-1).
