Below are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer’s winter sports player of the week.

This week’s nominees

J.D. Bowden, United Faith: The Falcons’ 6-foot-1 junior guard averaged 15.7 points per game in three wins last week. Bowden had 10 points in a 72-30 win over the South Charlotte Thunder on Nov. 7. He had 11 points in a 61-13 victory at Lake Norman Christian on Nov. 10. The next day, Bowden poured in 26 points in a 76-56 win at New Garden Friends. United Faith started the season 3-0.

DeShawn Coulter, Gaston Day: The 5-11 sophomore guard had 18 points to go with five rebounds in an 84-42 victory over Tabernacle Christian on Nov. 9. The next night, Coulter had 22 points, three rebounds and two assists in an 89-64 win over Piedmont Charter.

Kierra Morrow, Cannon School: The 5-10 senior forward had 23 points and 10 rebounds in a season-opening 80-57 win over Winston-Salem Christian on Nov. 11. Morrow is an Elon University commit.

Kyrell Shaw, Northside Christian: The 6-2 senior scored 22 points to go with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 67-45 win over Combine Regional in the Carmel Christian Tip-off on Nov. 10. Shaw followed that with 14 points and four rebounds in a 65-61 loss to Moravian Prep on Nov. 11.

Chucky Smith, Charlotte Country Day: The 6-2 junior scored 15 points to lead Charlotte Country Day to a 76-54 win over Carolina International on Nov. 10. The Buccaneers are 1-0 overall this season.

Mason Smith, Davidson Day: The 6-7 senior had 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 64-61 upset win in overtime at Cannon School in the Patriots’ season opener Nov. 10. Smith, a Hough transfer, is a Mercer University commit.

Kam Taylor, Carmel Christian: The 6-7 senior scored 29 points and had 10 rebounds in a 61-43 win over Gaston Christian in the Carmel Christian Tip-off Nov. 11. Taylor, an Olympic transfer, also had 22 points in a 76-56 loss to Forsyth Country Day in the Carmel Christian event on Nov. 10.
