Rock Hill Herald Fall Sports’ Athletes of the Week

Kassidy Abbott, Clover Volleyball: The Blue Eagles’ senior setter had 167 assists, 39 digs, 10 kills, five aces and four blocks in seven matches this week.

Clover (15-13-1) beat Marvin Ridge, while tying Wando and losing to Lexington, North Myrtle Beach and South Aiken in the Lexington High tournament, Sept. 30.

Clover also lost tight, 3-2 matches at Rock Hill, Sept. 26, and to Nation Ford, Sept. 28.

Sydney Biggers, Catawba Ridge Tennis: The Copperheads’ senior won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to help Catawba Ridge to a 6-0 win over Northwestern, Sept. 28.

Biggers also won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles in a 4-3 loss to Indian Land, Sept. 26.

Biggers is 7-2 in singles’ play for Catawba Ridge (6-3) this season.

Addison Burke, Legion Collegiate Volleyball: The Lancers’ junior had 67 kills, 34 digs, 42 service receptions, seven aces and seven blocks as Legion Collegiate went 4-1 at the Lexington High Tournament, Sept. 30.

Legion Collegiate (21-8) beat Chapin, Davidson Day, Spartanburg Christian and Spring Valley before losing to Marvin Ridge at the Lexington event.

Burke, a recent Eastern Kentucky University commit, also helped the Lancers to victories over Lewisville, 3-0, Sept. 25, and at Indian Land, 3-0, Sept. 27.

Ava Corbi, Fort Mill Swimming: The Yellow Jackets’ junior accounted for 56 points to lead the Fort Mill girls’ swim team to victory at the “Fort Mill Fallout,” against Catawba Ridge and Nation Ford at Fort Mill Aquatic Center, Sept. 28.

Corbi won the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and helped both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay to victory at the same meet.

Ahleena May, York Prep Cross Country: The Patriots’ freshman ran a personal-best 27:00 to finish 25th overall at Chester, Sept. 26.

May was 1:23 faster than her previous personal-best that she ran at the Trojan Invitational, Sept. 9 (28:23.10).

Gracie Mull, York Golf: The Cougars’ senior shot a seven-over part, 43, her best nine-hole round ever, at Fort Mill Country Club, Sept. 25.

The York girls’ golf team lost to Catwaba Ridge at the same meet.

Chloe Newport, Rock Hill Swimming: The Bearcats’ senior co-captain helped the Rock Hill girls’ swimming team to a “Rock Hill City Championship,” as they won the “Crosstown Throw Down,” against Northwestern and South Pointe at Rock Hill Aquatic Center, Sept. 28.

Newport finish ninth-place in the 50 freestyle, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, while helping the 200 medley relay to a third-place finish and the 400 freestyle relay to a sixth-place finish at the same meet.

Benjamin Notarangelo, Northwestern Cross Country: The Trojans’ junior ran a personal-best 17:09 to win on his home course, while also leading the Northwestern team to victory in a quad- meet with East Gaston, Hunter Huss and South Pointe, Sept. 26.

Notarangelo also ran a 17:27 to finish as runner-up individually while leading his team to a runner-up finish (to host, Watauga) at the Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals’ High Country Classic in Boone, Sept. 30.

Sarah Rocheleau, Catawba Ridge Volleyball: The Copperheads’ junior outside hitter had 83 kills, 36 digs, eight blocks and seven aces as 4-2-2 overall this week.

Catawba Ridge beat York, 3-0, Sept. 26, lost to Fort Mill, 3-2, Sept. 27, and defeated Lancaster, 3-0, Sept. 28.

The Copperheads also beat Blue Ridge and Eastside, tied Crescent twice, and lost to Wren at Eastside High’s tournament, Sept. 30.

Rocheleau had 139 kills, 83 digs, 19 aces and 13 blocks for Catawba Ridge (12-7-3) this season.

Charlie Wallace, Northwestern Swimming: The Trojans’ freshman won all four events she competed in at the “Crosstown Throw Down,” with Rock Hill and South Pointe at Rock Hill Aquatic Center, Sept. 28.

Wallace won the 50 freestyle (26.94), the 100 freestyle (58.81) and helped both the 200 medley relay (2:04.41) and the 400 freestyle relay (4:00.81) to victory at the same meet.

Wallace’s efforts also helped the Northwestern girls’ swim team to a runner-up finish to Rock Hill.
