Rock Hill Herald Fall Sports’ Athletes of the Week

Emerson Brooks, Catawba Ridge Tennis: The Copperheads’ freshman won 6-0, 6-2 in her No. 3 singles’ match to help Catawba Ridge to a 3-0 win at South Pointe, Sept. 14.

Brooks is 4-0 in singles’ play for Catawba Ridge (4-0) this season.

Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill Cross Country: The Yellow Jackets’ sophomore ran a personal-best 17:57 to finish as runner-up at the Warrior Cross Country Invitational at Stables’ Park in Pawleys’ Island, Sept. 16.

Cleveland’s record run also helped the Fort Mill girls’ cross country team to a runner-up finish to Philip Simmons High, in Pawleys’ Island.

Isabelle Conradie, Rock Hill Volleyball: The Bearcats’ senior had 17 kills and one ace in two wins this week as Rock Hill beat Spring Valley, Sept. 12, and won 3-2 at Fort Mill, Sept. 13.

Rock Hill (10-2) also won 3-0 at Northwestern, Sept. 16.

Conradie, who missed last year with an ACL injury, “has made a full recovery and is one of (Rock Hill’s) top offensive players,” according to Rock Hill volleyball coach, Ashley Williams.

Jack Dollyhigh, Fort Mill Swimming: The Yellow Jackets’ senior accounted for 84 points winning the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and leading both the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relays to victory in a quad meet with Andrew Jackson, Clover and Northwestern, Sept. 14.

Dollyhigh’s efforts also led the Fort Mill swim team to victory at the same meet.

Isabella Kiger, Indian Land Cross Country: The Warriors’ junior ran a 24:06.40 to finish third of 43 runners at Lancaster High, Sept. 14.

Kiger’s efforts also helped the Indian Land girls’ cross country to a runner-up finish to York at the same meet.

Lila Martin, Nation Ford Volleyball: The Falcons’ eighth-grader had 22 kills, nine digs and two aces in a 3-1 win over Clover, Sept. 12.

Martin also had nine kills, four digs and two aces in a 3-0 victory at Blythewood, Sept. 14.

Martin has 140 kills, 93 digs and 26 aces for Nation Ford (10-3) this season.

Sophia McCall, Rock Hill Swimming: The Bearcats’ freshman swam season-best and state consideration times as she finished third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle in a meet with Andrew Jackson, Catawba Ridge and York, Sept. 12.

McCall also swam season-best and state consideration times in finishing fifth in both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly in a meet with Nation Ford, Riverwalk Academy and Spring Valley, Sept. 14.

Benjamin Notarangelo, Northwestern Cross Country: The Trojans’ junior ran an 18:08.90 to win the 5K in home meet by 17 seconds over the field, Sept. 12.

Notarangelo led the Northwestern cross country team to a 22-point victory at the same meet, beating Clover, North Mecklenburg and Riverwalk Academy.

Margaret Olson, Legion Collegiate Golf: The Lancers’ senior shot an 82 to finish first-place individually at the Tradition, Sept. 13.

Olson is averaging a 38.9 per nine holes overall this season.

Sarah Rocheleau, Catawba Ridge Volleyball: The Copperheads’ junior had 15 kills, 11 digs, six aces and two blocks in two wins this week as Catawba Ridge won at Lancaster, Sept. 12, and beat Indian Land, 3-0, Sept. 14.

Catawba Ridge is 6-4 overall this season.

Sophie Sherer, Westminster Catawba Volleyball: The Indians’ sophomore had 10 kills, 11 digs, two aces and 14 service receptions to lead Westminster Catawba to a 3-0 win at Victory Christian, Sept. 11.

Westminster Catawba (7-5) also swept Northside Christian, 3-0, Sept. 14.

Ava Shook, York Cross Country: The Cougars’ sophomore ran a 22:05.70 to win the 5K at Lancaster High, Sept. 14.

Shook’s run led the York girls’ cross country team to a three-point victory over Indian Land at the same meet.
