Vote for Observer/Deer Park high school offensive player of the week: Nov. 3

Below are the nominees for the Charlotte Observer/Deer Park Water high school football offensive player of the week.

Eligible players are at schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties in North Carolina and in York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina.

The weekly winner will receive a trophy from Deer Park. Readers can vote as often as they want. The poll will close at 1 p.m. Friday.

This week’s offensive nominees

Tanner Bushee, Berry: In a 41-28 loss to Olympic on Friday, Bushee was 20-for-30 for 269 yards and three TDs. He ran 15 times for 182 yards and had two kick returns for 91 yards. His total of 542 yards set a school record.

Jaylen Byrd, Rocky River: In a 49-6 win against Garinger, Byrd ran for 138 yards and four touchdowns. He also had an interception.

Daniel Caldwell, Rock Hill Northwestern: Caldwell had three catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-10 win against Catawba Ridge.

Josh Clark, West Cabarrus: In a 35-28 loss to Hickory Ridge, Clark ran 29 times for 271 yards and a touchdown.

Christian Dixon, Mallard Creek: 10 carries for 114 yards and two touchdowns, plus a 50-yard touchdown that sealed a 21-6 win against rival Chambers.

Jonavon Fisher, Mountain Island Charter: Fisher caught one pass for 11 yards in a 27-21 win against Corvian Community School: the game-winner in overtime. Fisher has eight catches this season.

Sadat Grant, North Mecklenburg: In a 34-8 upset win against West Charlotte, Grant caught four passes for 130 yards.

Caden Haywood, Hickory Ridge: In a 35-28 win against West Cabarrus, Haywood was 13-of-21 passing for 196 yards and he ran 12 times for 55 yards and four touchdowns. He also had a two-point conversion.

Jaylen Himes, Providence Day: In a 54-7 win against Charlotte Latin, Himes had a 77-yard touchdown run and caught two passes for 21 yards.

Haven Maddox, Clover: In a 58-21 win against Rock Hill, Maddox was 7-for-7 on PATs and 3-for-3 on field goals. He connected at 22, 35 and 46 yards.

Brody Norman, Mooresville: The sophomore quarterback ran 10 times for 48 yards and threw for 102 yards in a 34-7 win against rival Lake Norman for the Greater Metro 4A title. He threw for two scores and ran for two more. He has 11 rushing and 20 passing TDs on the season.

Will Ryland, Ardrey Kell: In a 28-3 win against Palisades, the senior quarterback was 20-for-26 passing for 262 yards and four touchdowns. Ryland connected with receiver Ben Kirsch, a junior, 10 times for 121 yards and two scores.

Jayden Williams, Butler: In a 35-23 win against Independence that sealed the Southwestern 4A championship, Williams ran 24 times for 122 yards. He caught four passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns, and he had a two-point conversion.
