Vote for Observer/Deer Park high school football offensive player of the week (09.22.23)

Here are the nominees for the Charlotte Observer/Deer Park Water high school football offensive player of the week.

Eligible players are at schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union Counties in North Carolina and in York and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina.

The weekly winner will receive a trophy from Deer Park.

This week’s offensive nominees

Kaegan Chambers, Monroe: junior quarterback completed 13-of-19 passes for 168 yards in a 28-20 come-from-behind win over Porter Ridge. He was 7-for-10 for 106 yards in the second half.

Curtis Fields, West Cabarrus: senior receiver touched the ball eight times in Friday’s 23-22 overtime win over South Iredell. He scored on three of them. He finished with four catches for 42 yards and the game-tying touchdown (before the PAT) in over time. He ran three times for five yards and two touchdowns.

Caden Haywood, Hickory Ridge: in a 33-28 win over AL Brown, Haywood completed 24-of-37 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. He ran 12 times for 87 yards and another score.

Nolan Irwin, Northwest Cabarrus: 6-5, 275-pound junior offensive tackle led the way to eight rushing touchdowns in Friday’s 63-0 win over South Iredell.

Jack Larsen, Charlotte Catholic: caught six passes for 95 yards in a 29-22 come-from-behind win over Providence. On a decisive, game-winning, fourth quarter drive, Larsen — a Notre Dame commit — caught three passes for 49 yards.

Jayden Nordtveit, North Iredell: in a 33-0 win over Fred T. Foard, Nordtveit ran 19 times for 243 yards and he had three catches for 47 yards. He is a sophomore.

Brody Norman, Mooresville: sophomore QB threw four touchdowns in the first half of Friday’s 42-3 win over Cox Mill. He finished 12-of-17 for 215 yards and four touchdowns. He ran for a second half score.

Jaelan Pile, Covenant Day: in a 45-35 win over Asheville Christian, Pile had 11 catches for 142 yards and three touchdowns.

Turbo Richard, Rock Hill Northwestern (SC): In a 49-24 win over 5A power Gaffney, Richard ran nine times for 114 yards and two touchdowns. He caught a pass for eight yards. He also had a punt returns for 53 yards and a kickoff return for a 94-yard touchdown. That’s 269 yards total and four scores.

Wendell Thompson, Myers Park: in a 24-7 win over Marvin Ridge, Thompson completed 18-of-25 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Brady Turniff, Sun Valley: in a 48-0 win over Alexander Central, Turniff coompleted 15-of-20 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

RayJay Waters, Northwest Cabarrus: in a 63-0 win over South Rowan, Waters ran nine times for 112 yards and four touchdowns. He had a tackle for loss on defense. This was Waters’ second game this season scoring at least three times.

Jaylin Winnex, West Lincoln: in a 36-28 win over Bandys, Winnex ran 17 times for 271 yards and two touchdowns, plus two 2-pint conversions. On defense, he had six tackles and an interception. On special teams, he had two kick returns for 39 yards.
