Poll results: O’Fallon sophomore BND Baseball Player of the Week in southwest Illinois​

Connor Blue of O’Fallon High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Baseball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent action, Blue, a sophomore pitcher/infielder, threw a complete game and allowed just 1 hit while posting 10 strikeouts in a 12-0 win over Alton. He then had 3 runs and 1 RBI in a 15-5 victory over Althoff. Blue, who secured 53% of the votes, entered the weekend with a 4-1 record and 1.93 earned run average while fanning 39 and allowing just 17 hits in 25 1/3 innings pitched.

At the plate, Blue was batting .327 with 13 RBI. Overall, Blue secured 50% of the votes to edge out Edwardsville’s Logan Geggus, who collected 47% of the votes.

Here were the other candidates for the week of April 10-15:

  • Reed Drabant, Columbia High School, senior, OF/INF. In 5 games, Drabant went 9-for-15 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 5 RBI and 7 runs scored. He also had a 1.633 OPS and 4 walks.

  • Jacob Flowers, Civic Memorial High School, freshman, INF/P. Flowers had 3 hits and 4 RBI in a 14-4 win against Roxana. Flowers also had 3 runs and 2 hits in a 11-0 win over Jerseyville.

  • Logan Geggus, Edwardsville High School, senior, P. Geggus threw 11 strikeouts in five innings pitched in a 11-1 victory over Gateway Legacy Christian.

  • Brody Landgraf, Columbia High School, freshman, INF/P. In 6 games last week, Landraft went 8-for-17 with a 1.289 OPS, 1 triple, 1 home run, 9 RBI and 8 runs scored.

  • Chase Lewis, Breese Central High School, senior, P/IF. Lewis had 3 hits, 5 RBI and 1 HR in a 14-4 win against Freeburg. In two combined games against Mascoutah, Lewis went 4-for-6 with 3 runs scored, 8 RBI, a grand slam and 2 home runs overall, as the Cougars posted a 12-2 win and a 12-12 tie. Lewis also posted the win against Freeburg, firing 6 innings while allowing just 6 hits and 2 earned runs and striking out 6. For the week, he went 9-for-16 with 6 runs scored, 14 RBI, 2 doubles and 3 home runs.

  • Joe Mendiola, Belleville East High School, senior, INF. Mendiola had 4 hits and 2 RBI in a 5-3 victory over Freeburg. He also had 3 hits and 1 RBI in a 14-2 win against Mater Dei. His line in 3 games was: 10-11, 4 doubles, 3 RBI, 1 Walk. He is currently slashing .500 (26/52), .554 OBP, .788 SLUG.

  • Dom Voegele, Columbia High School, senior, P/SS. In 6 games, Voegele went 9-for-18 with a 1,473 OPS and 1 double, 1 triple, 1 home run to go with 13 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, 4 RBI and 7 walks. On the mound, he pitched 8 innings over 2 games, with striking out 12, walking just 2 and surrendering just 1 run/earned run for a 0.88 earned run average.
