Watch: Escaped kangaroo returned to Alabama home

Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Alabama said a kangaroo seen hopping loose through a town was safely captured and returned to its owner.

Dee Miller captured video of the Australian marsupial hopping through Bessemer on Sunday night and posted it to social media, where it quickly spread among the local community.

"It was real fast," Miller told AL.com.

Miller said he recorded video of the creature because he thought no one would believe him without proof.

"I know people would have said, 'No, ain't no kangaroo in Bessemer,'" he said.

Detective Justin Burmeister of the Bessemer Police Department said the kangaroo escaped from an Owen Avenue home where multiple exotic animals are kept.

Burmeister said the kangaroo was recaptured by its owner Monday evening.
