Watch: Loose dog brings traffic to a halt on busy Philadelphia highway

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Traffic on a busy Philadelphia highway was brought to a standstill Friday morning when a dog was spotted running loose in the roadway.

The canine was first seen running loose in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95, near Allegheny Avenue, just before 7:30 a.m.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as drivers attempted to avoid the dog weaving in and out of traffic and Pennsylvania State Police attempted to wrangle the furry traffic hazard.

The dog was finally captured after a mile-long chase and taken to Town and Country Pet Care Center in Langhorne.

The dog was apparently knocked over in a collision with a large truck during the chase, but was not injured.

"He definitely went through a little bit of trauma. You can definitely tell by his body language, the heavy panting, he's definitely still nervous," Town and Country General Manager Angela Carpino told WPVI-TV.

The dog was wearing a collar but was not microchipped, Carpino said. She said officials are now trying to find the animal's owner.
