What to Watch the Week of June 9: Bridgerton Part 2 Is Everything You Want It to Be and More

Bridgerton part 2 is finally (almost) here, as the second half premieres this Thursday, June 13, with the final four episodes of season three. (Unless you’re one of many who will stay up late on Wednesday night as soon as it drops on Netflix.)

Having seen the first two (episodes 305 and 306), I can say that while part 1 was great, Bridgerton part 2 is even better. We finally get to the juicy stuff—drama, secrets, and of course, sex. Showrunner Jess Brownell tells Glamour that every storyline will come to a head as “the tension ramps up double-time [compared to] the first half of the season.”

But leave it to executive producer Shonda Rhimes to really amp up the anticipation: “It is sexy and surprising…I cried at the end. And I don’t always cry,” she said on 3rd Hour Today last week. “I really got into it. It’s a beautiful story.”

At the end of part one, Colin proposed to Penelope outside the Bridgerton house; in the part two trailer, we know that Penelope has accepted his proposal (as if she wouldn’t) and admitted that she’s always been in love with him. Of course, the big secret she has yet to reveal is that she’s also Lady Whistledown, whom Colin despises. Eloise threatens to tell her brother if Pen doesn’t do it first, and how Colin will react has the potential to derail everything.

In the book Colin is able to move on rather quickly upon learning the news, but the series seems poised to take a different route. “We’ve had her go after the Bridgertons at different points, so there’s quite a bit more for her to own up to, which changes the nature of the reveal,” Brownell says.

On that note, it’s only a matter of days before we see it all unfold, so come back to Glamour this Thursday, June 13, to read Brownell’s post-finale interview, which also discusses where the show will go in season four.

But while we wait for Bridgerton, another jewel in our pop-culture universe takes center stage when Hoda Kotb sits down with icon Celine Dion to talk about the debilitating illness, stiff-person syndrome, that caused the Grammy winner to put her music career on hold. Dion is doing the interview in advance of her Prime Video documentary I Am: Celine Dion, which premieres later this June. Kotb is the perfect person to interview the mom of three, so look for that one-hour special this Tuesday night on NBC.

Throughout the season, viewers will be able to vote for their favorite couples via the Love Island USA app to determine who remains in the villa and who goes home heartbroken. 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT streaming with new episodes six days a week

Air (ABC): Still my favorite movie from the past few years, Air makes its broadcast debut tonight. From award-winning director Ben Affleck, the movie chronicles the unbelievable true story of how the business partnership Nike and Michael Jordan changed sports marketing and the game of basketball forever. Chris Messina as Jordan’s agent steals the film, along with stellar performances from Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, and Viola Davis. 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT

Presumed Innocent (Apple TV+): The new eight-episode limited series starring and executive-produced by Jake Gyllenhaal is based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name by Scott Turow. David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams produce, and Gyllenhaal plays the lead role of chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love. Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle, and Renate Reinsve also star. Streaming

Thursday, June 13

Bridgerton (Netflix): What more is there to say except, Will Penelope and Colin last once he finds out about her secret identity as Whistledown? We’ve got four episodes to find out. Streaming

Bridgerton: The Official Podcast: The fifth episode is titled “Tick Tock” and will go behind the scenes with actor Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise. Host Gabi Collins will talk about Eloise’s huge character moments in the episode, including that ultimatum (you’ll know what I’m talking about once you watch). Plus, showrunner Jess Brownell rejoins the show to talk about everything from the long-awaited mirror scene to Cressida’s jaw-dropping announcement. Available wherever you get your podcasts

Summer House: The Reunion Part 2 (Bravo): The reunion concludes tonight as West and Ciara consider their future, while Amanda makes an emotional revelation about her health. Peanuts: Camp Snoopy (Apple TV+): After discovering their troop is in danger of being disbanded because they have zero badges, Snoopy and the Beagle Scouts set off to camp in the outdoors to earn merit badges with the Beagle Scout Manual as their guide. Meanwhile, Charlie Brown and friends enjoy their summer at camp, crossing paths with Snoopy as they experience everything camp and the outdoors have to offer. Streaming

Treasure (Bleecker Street/Film Nation): Working from the book Too Many Men by Lily Brett, Julia von Heinz writes and directs the film starring Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry (V For Vendetta, Wilde) as their characters embark on a father-daughter road trip set in post-communist 1990s Poland. Dunham plays Ruth, a music journalist from the States, while Fry plays Edek, a charmingly stubborn Holocaust survivor, on a journey to his homeland. While Ruth is eager to make sense of her family’s past, Edek embarks on the trip with his own agenda. In theaters

Inside Out 2 (Disney/Pixar): The follow-up to the hit 2015 premieres today. Here’s the synopsis: “The little voices inside Riley’s head know her inside and out—but next summer, everything changes when Inside Out 2 introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety. Meanwhile, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Firebrand (Roadside Attractions): Starring Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, The Crown’s Erin Doherty, and more. Twice-married, accomplished, and educated Katherine Parr (Vikander) reluctantly agrees to become the sixth wife of the tyrannical King Henry VIII (Law). Her consent to marry him carries great personal risk, given that her predecessors are either vanquished, beheaded, or dead. When Henry appoints her as Regent, the nation’s ruler during his absence when he departs to fight overseas, he lays a dangerous path for her, prompting Katherine to unleash her own scheme to fight for survival.
