Water main repairs along Anna Maria Island bridge postponed, Manatee officials say

Repairs along the Manatee Avenue Bridge that were originally set to resume this week have been postponed due to a delay in acquiring materials.

The bridge was expected to see daily lane closures and periods of one-way traffic starting Wednesday, Sept. 6, but key construction materials have not arrived. The rescheduled date is likely to be late September or early October, the Manatee County Government said in a Friday afternoon press release.

The repairs were set to be the final phase of a project that first began when the water main, which provides potable water to Anna Maria Island, fell into the Anna Maria Sound on June 20 after it collapsed from hangers under the bridge.

The county began repairs on the pipe on June 26 and completed the first phase in early July, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.

The final phase of the repairs will involve the installation of additional hangers to support the pipe on the east side of the bridge.

Previous estimates said securing the pipe would take between two to three weeks from the start of the final phase.

Manatee County Government will share more information when the repairs are rescheduled, according to a press release.
