7 popular upcoming spring events in the Tacoma area, from Daffodil Festival to Klahowya

With warmer days and flowers blossoming on the horizon with the arrival of spring, Washingtonians will be gradually spending more time outside. To welcome in the season, several festivals and events will take place throughout the month of April, May and June.

Here are some outdoor events around Pierce County to consider adding to your calendar this spring season.

Daffodil Festival — Pierce County

Pierce County’s 90th annual Daffodil Festival consists of multiple parades that take place in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting in April. It originally started in 1934 in the Puyallup and Sumner area to celebrate the agricultural industry, according to the festival’s website. Several events are headlining this year’s festival, including the Grand Floral Parade, the Daffodil 8K, the Marine Parade and the Junior Daffodil Parade.

  • Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, April 1 at 10:15 a.m. in Tacoma; 12:45 p.m. in Puyallup; 2:30 p.m. in Sumner; 5 p.m. in Orting

  • 2023 Daffodil 8K on Sunday, April 2 at 9:30 a.m.

  • Marine Parade on Sunday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m.

  • Junior Daffodil Parade on Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m.

Easter Festival and Egg Hunt — Fife

The city of Fife will be hosting an Easter egg hunt and various activities, including a dance party, giant slide and bounce house. There will also be entertainment from the Seattle Cossacks Motorcycle Stunt and Drill Team. Balloon artists, airbrush artists and vendors will be set up at the event as well. Registration before attending isn’t required.

Washington State Spring Fair — Puyallup

The Washington State 2023 Spring Fair takes place over the course of two weekends in April. There’s plenty to check out at the fair, such as pig races, live music, an artisan market, rides, games, chainsaw carving and more.

Where: 110 9th Ave. Southwest, Puyallup

When: Thursday through Sunday, April 13-16 and 20-23; times vary

Cost: General admission ranges from $10-14 based on when tickets are purchased and age; attendees ages 18 and under get in for free Thursdays; parking prices vary.

Klahowya — Tacoma

For this event, visitors have a chance to experience life as it was in the mid-1800s at Point Defiance’s Fort Nisqually. Visitors can meet up with historical interpreters who re-enact the daily lives of Washington pioneers and demonstrate historic trades like woodworking and tinsmithing. Attendees can also take part in other family-friendly activities like playing Victorian games and sampling food prepared in the living history museum’s kitchen.

Superhero 5K — University Place

Take part in a race on paved trails dressed as one of your favorite superheroes. Jazzercise will be hosting a pre-race warm up, and lawn games will be available. Attendees must register online by May 1.

Where: Chambers Creek Regional Park at 6320 Grandview Dr. West

When: Saturday, May 13; check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., race starts at 9:30 a.m.

Cost: $30 for ages 13 and over; $25 for ages 12 and under

Kidz Kraze Children’s Festival — University Place

The Kidz Kraze Children’s Festival occurs in late spring and provides many family-friendly activities like field games, bounce houses and face painting. Various vendors and food trucks will also be present at the Saturday events.

When: Saturday, June 10; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cost: $10 for parking

Sound to Narrows — Tacoma

This Tacoma race has been a mainstay in the community for over 50 years. Both 12K and 5K races are hosted and will start at Vassault Park. The 12K race will have attendees dash northbound into and around Point Defiance Park, while the 5K race has runners go up North Vassault Street and back down on North Visscher Street.

Where: North Vassault and 37th Street, Tacoma, WA

When: Saturday, June 10; Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.; 12K run starts at 8:15 a.m.; 5K run starts at 8:30 a.m.

Cost: Participation cost ranges from $35-$50 for adults depending on time of registration; $10 for ages 18 and younger; $10 for 2K for ages 13 and over; $5 for 2K for ages 5-12
