Where NC State women’s basketball lands in committee’s second NCAA Tournament preview

N.C. State is still in line to host the first weekend of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, despite losing two straight games.

The tournament selection committee revealed its top 16 seeds on Thursday night. It listed the Wolfpack as the No. 11 overall seed and No. 3 in the Portland 2 regional.

At the time of publication, N.C. State was ranked No. 12 in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll and held a 23-5 overall record.

Its regional includes, listed in order of seeding, Stanford (24-4), Texas (26-4) and Indiana (23-4).

South Carolina (27-0) leads all teams as the No. 1 overall seed in Albany Regional 1. Ohio State (24-3) in Albany Regional 3, Stanford in Portland Regional 2 and UCLA (22-5) in Portland Regional 4 rounded out the top four overall seeds.

Virginia Tech (23-4) earned the No. 2 seed in the Portland 4 regional. Going into the reveal, the Hokies were ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press poll.

The selection committee releases the official bracket at 8 p.m. March 17.

March Madness begins with First Four games on March 20 and March 21. The first round is set for March 22-23.

Regional games take place March 29-April 1 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, and the Times-Union Center in Albany, New York.

The Final Four, scheduled for April 5 and 7, will take place at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
