Why was Ethan Hawke back in Fort Worth? Something to do with a movie starring his daughter

Texas native and filmmaker Ethan Hawke, 53, stopped by Fort Worth over the weekend to promote his new movie “Wildcat”.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth hosted a screening of the movie on Sunday afternoon, with Hawke sticking around for a discussion afterward. Hawke wrote and directed the movie that stars his daughter, Maya Hawke, as acclaimed novelist Flannery O’Connor.

“Wildcat” follows the life of O’Connor while struggling to publish her first novel. The film is now playing in select theaters, including at the Modern.

Ethan Hawke’s Fort Worth visit comes just a day after he was in Dallas at the Texas Theatre for another “Wildcat” screening.

Hawke may have been born in Austin, but the “Training Day” star has plenty of ties to Fort Worth. His parents met in North Richland Hills and married during their college years at the University of Texas at Austin.

After Hawke’s parents divorced when he was 4 years old, the actor spent his school years living with his mother in New Jersey and his summers with his father in Fort Worth. Nowadays, both his parents live in the North Texas area.

Hawke’s Texas lineage goes even further from that as his grandfather was a five-term Texas state legislator and two-term Tarrant County judge.

Last year, Hawke was spotted at Joe T. Garcia’s, a Fort Worth restaurant that’s a hotspot for celebrities.

Along with Maya Hawke, “Wildcat” also stars Laura Linney, Rafael Casal, Philip Ettinger, Cooper Hoffman and Vincent D’ Onofrio.

Maya Hawke is the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, who made her acting debut in 2017. Some of her most notable roles have come in “Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood,” “Stranger Things,” “Fear Street” and “Maestro”.

For Ethan Hawke, “Wildcat” is the fourth feature film he’s directed after “Chelsea Walls,” “The Hottest State” and “Blaze”. He also continues to be one of the busiest actors in Hollywood.

“Wildcat” is now playing in select theaters.
