Cape Breton man, 87, dies after Port Hastings car crash

An 87-year-old man from Skye Glen, near Whycocomagh, has died following a car crash Wednesday afternoon in Port Hastings, say Nova Scotia RCMP.

Donald John Ferguson was one of two people in a Chevrolet sedan that collided with an oil delivery truck on Highway 4 at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Ferguson and his 84-year-old female passenger were trapped and the Jaws of Life were used to free them. They were both taken to St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish, where Ferguson died.

The woman remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said police.

The 36-year-old male driver of the oil delivery truck was not injured.

RCMP say no charges are being considered.
