‘Wobbling’ storm could still bring thunder, rain to SLO County
San Luis Obispo County may still see some rain from the much-hyped weather system that’s hit other areas of California this week but left the Central Coast mostly dry all week.
The current weather system was an upper-level low pressure system that broke away from the jet stream, a flow of air directing the system to move east from the Pacific Ocean to the Central Coast and beyond.
However, when the weather system broke from that jet stream, it mostly stayed out on the ocean.
“It was out there sort of wobbling around,” John Lindsey, a former PG&E meteorologist told The Tribune on Friday.
That kept any precipitation from reaching SLO County, despite teasing asperitas clouds that formed and indicated the possibility of incoming rainfall.
Things could change Friday afternoon, however, as the system is pushed from the ocean onto land and still carries moisture, Lindsey said.
There’s a chance for areas of San Luis Obispo County to see moderate to heavy rainfall beginning late Friday afternoon and lasting into Saturday morning, according to Lindsey and the National Weather Service.
The rain could be accompanied by a thunderstorm through Saturday morning, according to the two sources.
Rainfall totals for San Luis Obispo County would likely vary between 0.25 inches to 1.5 inches.
Things are expected to clear back up on Sunday, with breezy and sunny conditions expected for San Luis Obispo County, according to the Weather Service.
