Woman, 13 dogs and cats saved from burning home in Visalia, firefighters say

A woman and 13 pets escaped a blaze thanks to the help of firefighters, the Visalia Fire Department said Tuesday.

When fire crews arrived about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the woman and animals were trapped inside a burning home on Martin Street south of Whitendale Avenue, according to a news release.

The woman was taken out and first responders started life-saving efforts before she was transported to an area hospital, firefighters said. Her condition was not immediately known.

The fire crew also pulled 13 dogs and cats from the burning home, the release said. Visalia Animal Control took possession of the animals.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, the release said.
