Woman, 85, charged with stunt driving after fatal crash

An 85-year-old Vaughan, Ont., woman faces three charges including stunt driving, after a car crash in mid-June that killed a woman out for a walk with her dog.

York Regional Police said in a news release that at 8:15 p.m. ET, a 2011 Lexus sedan travelling north on Thornhill Woods Drive allegedly left the road and hit the woman and her dog, killing them both.

The Lexus continued north across several lawns and struck several trees and a hydro transformer before ending up on its roof.

The driver and her 88-year-old passenger have both been charged.

The driver faces charges of stunt driving for driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit, careless driving and failure to properly wear a seatbelt.

The passenger faces a charge of failing to properly wear a seatbelt.
