Woman charged with murder after man assaulted in January dies in hospital

Toronto police say they have charged a 35-year-old woman with second-degree murder after a man assaulted in January in the city's east end died in hospital.

The woman, who is from Toronto, was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Wednesday, police said in a news release.

Police allege the woman attacked Gerrard Martin, 60, after the pair had an argument in the early morning hours of Jan. 23.

Officers responded to the scene on Danforth Avenue, near Jones Avenue, and arrested the woman. Meanwhile, Martin was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Martin died of his injuries in hospital on Feb. 18, according to police.
