Pair hospitalized following Pitts Memorial rollover

A man and a woman were taken to hospital in St. John's Monday, after a late-morning rollover near a busy highway exchange on the outskirts of the city.

A sedan rolled over near Pitts Memorial Highway, near the exchange with the Trans-Canada Highway.

The woman was described as being in critical condition, while the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary later said both occupants had sustained serious injuries.

Police said the woman, who was described as being in her 20s, had been ejected from the vehicle.

The RNC closed Pitts Memorial between the TCH east and west exits, but reopened the highway just before 1:30 p.m. NT.

Traffic had been backed up on Pitts Memorial westbound lanes between Ruth Avenue and eastbound TCH exits while officers remained on scene.
