Woman dies, another in critical condition after collision in north Wichita neighborhood
One person died in a collision in a north Wichita residential neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, and another was in critical condition.
Police were called at about 2:51 p.m. near the intersection of 23rd Street North and Jackson, which is near the intersection of 21st and Arkansas.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash, a black four-door Nissan Altima and a Silver Acura MDX SUV. Both vehicles were visible halfway on the street curb facing a home.
Wichita Police Department spokesperson Lt. Aaron Moses said two women were in the Nissan Altima and two men were in the SUV. One of the women died at the scene from her injuries and the other was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition.
The two men in the SUV received minor injuries.
Moses did not say how the crash happened or where the vehicles were headed.
Moses said the Altima was T-boned by the SUV. At the scene, the Altima had damage to its passenger side.
“We’re still investigating all of the circumstance that led up the collision,” Moses said. “It’s very early.”
Jackson and 23rd streets will be closed at least a block in all directions for the next few hours. Residents who live in the area can get with an officer at the scene to get to their home, police said.
