A woman was killed when she was hit by multiple drivers in Brampton early Friday, police say, while another woman who stopped to help has life-threatening injuries after she was also struck.

The series of collisions happened around 5:45 a.m. near the corner of Steeles Avenue West and Heritage Road.

Amazon Canada has confirmed that both women were its employees.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our colleague, and we offer our heartfelt condolences to their loved ones," Ryma Boussoufa, a spokesperson for Amazon Canada, said in an email on Friday.

"Our thoughts are also with our employee who is currently in hospital. We are providing support resources for the victims' families and our workforce. We are also offering our full cooperation to local authorities."

Both women struck by 3rd driver

A 41-year-old woman was crossing Steeles going southbound when she was hit by a driver travelling eastbound, police say. The impact threw her into the oncoming westbound lanes, where she was then struck by another vehicle.

The driver involved in the first collision remained at the scene, while the driver involved in the second left, said Peel police Const. Mandeep Khatra.

A 30-year-old woman, who was also on foot, tried to help the woman after she was hit by the two vehicles. That's when both were struck by a third driver, Khatra said.

The older woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Good Samaritan is in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver involved in the third collision also stayed at the scene, Khatra said.

Peel police say they are looking for the driver who left the scene. They were behind the wheel of a mid-sized SUV. Khatra urged that person to contact a lawyer and turn themselves in to police.

The intersection is closed in all directions for the ongoing investigation.
