Wombat Goes Walkabout in Australian Winter Snow

A wombat was spotted waddling through fresh snow at the Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort east of Melbourne, Victoria, on the morning of Sunday, August 11, resort staff said.

Heavy snow and cold temperatures had sparked road closures across Victoria into the weekend, Australian media reported on Sunday, as a cold front swept across the country’s southeast.

The cold front moved northeast over the weekend, dumping snow across New South Wales. Video captured in rural Curraweela on Saturday showed a troop of kangaroos bounding through snow.

As of Tuesday, several roads remained closed in Victoria, including South Face Road just south of Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort, according to Vic Roads, the state government road authority. Credit: Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort via Storyful
