WWE's Nikki Bella was ready to call AEW to make wrestling return
Former WWE Superstar Nikki Bella has admitted she was close to calling Tony Khan to return to the ring for AEW.
Nikki and her sister Brie (who are now known as the Garcia Twins) left WWE in March 2023 and, with it, they left behind the Bella name.
Speaking on the podcast the Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki said that seeing Mercedes Moné make her AEW debut got her thinking about wrestling again.

Nikki said: "Since we've been lifting so much, we always say, we always start to get that wrestling mindset, 'We're going to go back and do this story and cut this promo.'
"How serious I got? I was like, 'Okay, I think I can do maybe a year at AEW and I can do it every week.' When I saw Mercedes debut and cut her promo, that line stuck with me, 'Here, we're going to make the evolution worldwide'."
Nikki went on to add that she was intrigued by AEW's opening of the 'forbidden door', where they work with other wrestling promotions worldwide.

"I was like, 'They do.' It goes into many leagues, is what she means, it doesn't have to be at one place. It can be at all these places where all these women are wrestling at," she sid.
"I go, 'Brie, I think I can do it for a year. I can do it here to here and go every week.' I had a good week of like, 'This is it. I'm going to call Tony Khan. I'm your girl. I will commit.'
"Then, I was like, 'I can't do that to my son right now. He needs me.'"
Nikki welcomed her son Matteo with her partner, former Strictly Come Dancing favourite Artem Chigvintsev, in March 2020.

Upon their departure from WWE last year, Nikki explained that the twins wanted to start a new chapter in their lives.
"Today, we are officially the Garcia Twins, Brie and Nikki Garcia," Nikki announced.
"We’re going to be 40 in November, we’re mothers, we’re entrepreneurs, we’re executive producers, we’re starring now, we’re hosting shows, and when our contract came up with WWE, mutually we all knew that we just needed to head into this new chapter."
