It's a Wynne-win for Ontario Liberals

Kathleen Wynne will become Ontario's first female premier after securing key endorsements from, left to right, Eric Hoskins, Charles Sousa and Gerard Kennedy.

Kathleen Wynne will be Ontario’s first female premier after dramatic movements on the convention floor earned her the endorsement of two former rivals.

Those endorsements, from Mississauga South MPP Charles Sousa and former Toronto MP and MPP Gerard Kennedy, came after the second ballot and pushed support for Wynne past Sandra Pupatello, who up to that point held a slight lead between the two clear frontrunners.

That set up Wynne’s victory on the third and final ballot which came by a vote of 1,150 to 866.

The pair appeared together on stage and held hands after the results were announced.
