Michael Kopsa, best known for his roles in The X-Files and Smallville, has died at the age of 66.

The actor passed away on Sunday after battling a brain tumour, and his ex-wife Lucia Frangione confirmed the sad news in a statement and post on her Instagram.

"The great Michael Kopsa passed away Oct 23 2022 of a brain tumour," she wrote. "He was an incredible stage and screen actor, voice actor, musician, carpenter, painter, and most importantly a present and loving father to our Nora. I will miss you fiercely my dear friend and co-parent."

Kopsa was born in Toronto on January 22, 1956, working in smaller productions before moving to Vancouver in 1994. Once there, he joined the cast for Stargate SG-1, remarking to Gate World that the show "employed just about every actor in Vancouver at one time or another."

In 1997, he went on to play one of his most memorable roles as Rick Culver on The X-Files, which he debuted in the episode titled 'El Mundo Gira'. This episode saw an illegal immigrant go on the run after becoming patient zero for a mysterious illness.

His film credits include brief roles in Watchmen, Fantastic Four, Love Happens and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, while he appeared on the small screen in series such as The Outer Limits, Fringe and The Net.

Kopsa was also a notable voice actor, appearing in a wide range of animations and video games. He voiced Char Aznable in the English dub of Mobile Suit Gundam, whilst also playing Hank ‘Beast’ McCoy in X-Men: Evolution.
