‘X-Men’ Actor Vinnie Jones Turned Down ‘Deadpool 3’ Due to ‘Mental Toll’ of Juggernaut Suit, Says Making ‘The Last Stand’ Was ‘Shambles’ and ‘I Was Very Upset’
“Deadpool” star Karan Soni (Dopinder) told Variety this week that a ton of surprise cameos were filmed for the upcoming third installment, “Deadpool and Wolverine,” adding: “Let’s just say a lot of people traveled to London [for filming].” One actor who apparently did not make it to London was Vinnie Jones, who debuted as Juggernaut in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Jones recently told Yahoo Movies UK that he turned down a request to reprise the character in “Deadpool and Wolverine” because getting in his Juggernaut suit isn’t the best experience.
“Funnily enough I just got asked to do ‘Deadpool,’ the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically,” Jones said. “It had its mental toll as well because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for ‘Deadpool [and Wolverine].'”

“But ‘Deadpool’s’ my favorite movie of all fucking time more or less,” he added. “I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”
Jones’ Juggernaut faced off against Jackman’s Wolverine in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which opened theatrically in 2006. He told Yahoo Movies UK that he agreed to play the comic book character under filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, and then he became upset when a director shuffle to Brett Ratner drastically altered the role.
“The new director came on and it was not the same role as I had signed on to do,” Jones said. “They diluted the dialogue … The director brought in so many moving parts and so many other actors that mine got diluted. I lost all interest quite early because I knew they were just taking me along … I was very upset really. It was such a big stage and I became an extra, that’s what happened.”
“I was going in and going, ‘Where is all my dialogue? Where is the storyline?,'” Jones remembered. “For me it was shambles and it was a shame.”
Jones never got the chance to play Juggernaut again outside of “X-Men: The Last Stand.” The character would later appear in Reynolds’ “Deadpool” movies through motion capture. Jones is currently on a press tour for his role in the Netflix gangster series “The Gentlemen,” which reunites him with his “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch” director Guy Ritchie.
