Xbox is increasing Game Pass prices and replacing its console tier, as part of a significant shake-up for the subscription service.

The monthly cost for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass is going up by £2 each.

Meanwhile, the console-specific tier is being replaced with a new 'Standard' membership that includes online console multiplayer but will not include access to first-party day one game releases.

That means new console subscribers will need to sign up for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to enjoy the full Xbox Game Pass catalogue.

The price changes take effect from July 10 for new members. Existing members will be billed at the new prices from September 12.

Here are the price changes:

  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: £14.99 / $19.99 per month (was £12.99 / $16.99)

  • PC Game Pass: £9.99 / $11.99 per month (was £7.99 / $9.99)

  • Xbox Game Pass Core: £55.99 / $74.99 per year (was £49.99 / $59.99)

The monthly Xbox Game Pass Core cost remains unchanged.

Xbox Game Pass Standard will launch "in the coming months" at $14.99 per month in the US – an increase over the existing console tier ($10.99). A UK price has yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.

Existing Xbox Game Pass for Console subscribers can continue with their membership, provided they keep automatic payment renewal enabled.

"If at any time you turn off your automatic payment renewal and your membership lapses, you will no longer have access to Game Pass for Console and will need to join one of the other plans we offer for Game Pass," Xbox says in its FAQ.

These changes follow confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be made available on Game Pass on day one.

There had been speculation that Microsoft would increase Game Pass prices and adjust the tiers. That is now becoming a reality.

It is the latest development at Xbox following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King worth $69 billion late last year.
