Yellowknife's new city manager has resigned from his post, two weeks after taking over as the city's top administrator.

John Collin stepped into the role on April 9, replacing former city manager Sheila Bassi-Kellett. His last day as city manager will be May 13.

In a news release Tuesday morning, the city called the announcement "sad".

"This is unexpected, but council would like to extend our best wishes to John," Mayor Rebecca Alty said in the news release.

"Council is determining next steps to fill the city manager position, given this unexpected news. We will update when further information is confirmed, and will appoint an interim city manager by May 13."
