Yes, Meghan Markle Pays for Her Own Clothing

Truth: Dressing like a royal ain’t cheap. Between the $78,000 couture Ralph & Russo gown Meghan Markle donned for her and Prince Harry’s stunning engagement photos to her proclivity for Victoria Beckham’s luxurious clothing line, Markle’s wardrobe comes with a hefty price tag.

Which leads us to wonder: How does the duchess-to-be afford all of her extravagant clothing and accessories? Let’s break it down.

While many celebs receive designer duds gratis, it’s against royal policy to accept free clothing. So that means the to-die-for custom Stephen Jones beret Markle wore on Commonwealth Day and the $1,990 Chloé bag she carried on Christmas were bankrolled by her and Prince Harry’s.

Given the fact that Harry’s an actual prince, he’s not exactly worried about silly things like bills or savings, because his net worth is somewhere in the ballpark of a cool $25 million. Markle’s not strapped for cash, either. She reportedly earned an estimated $50,000 per episode by the end of her Suits run.

Although the royal couple is currently funding Markle’s fabulous wardrobe from their own pockets, that will no longer be the case once she officially becomes a duchess. After their May 19 wedding, all of Meghan’s sartorial purchases for official royal engagements will be paid for through the annual royal allowance funded by Prince Charles’s $28 million annual income.

So how much is this royal allowance? Well, last year K-Middy and the princes were given a staggering $4.8 million budget to spend on clothing, staff and office allowances.

How many more years until Prince George is legal? (We kid!)
