With Youtube Videos and Pendrives, Roshni Mukherjee Ensures Quality Education for Underprivileged Children in India

Roshni Mukherjee (35) left a promising career in IT sector to pursue her passion for teaching school children. On her Youtube channel Learnohub (earlier named Examfear), she gives lectures on Science and Maths for students from 6th to 12th grades. Her aim is to make them understand basics well so that they can grow a genuine interest in these subjects.

Although she started the channel in 2011, it was in 2014 that she left her corporate job to teach full time. There was no sure source of revenue; yet Roshni was sure that she would be happy doing it. Her husband also supported the idea. Her Youtube channel has more than one million subscribers today.

In order to help underprivileged children and students in rural areas, who cannot access internet regularly, Roshni has also started a non-profit organisation - Nishulk Education Foundation - which distributes pendrives (loaded with her lecture videos) in local schools.

Speaking to MAKERS India recently, Bengaluru-based Roshni also revealed why she has not accepted any Venture Capital investments, stressing that her passion remains giving free, good quality education for students. Even her 'marketing' has been mostly word of mouth. She adds that many people tend to judge free content as of low quality. But Roshni is confident when she says, "My content is free, but it has the best quality."

For her selfless service, she has been honoured by the President of India with Nari Shakti Puraskar (2016); but Roshni says she felt the happiest when a school student who watched her videos told her - "You explained in 10 minutes what my teacher could not explain in a week."

Roshni tells MAKERS India that she, along with her team of five, is planning to expand the videos into more subjects (like English and other languages) soon.
