Kids give letter to homeowner who didn’t hand out Halloween candy

Most children can't wait to collect candy on Halloween night, but when homeowners don't hand out treats some dire consequences can follow.

Some kids calling themselves Children of the Hood wrote a letter to one homeowner in Oshawa, Ont. explaining that he missed Halloween and left the letter in his mailbox. They write that the lady who used to own the house handed out candy apples, "but last night there were no candy apples. Come to think of it there was no candy at all from your home!"

The kids explain the mistake and say the homeowner can fix it next year by passing out chocolate bars. They say they will understand he probably can't make candy apples because he is a guy and that they receive too many bags of chips so chocolate bars are the perfect solution. Another way to rectify the issue is for the homeowner to deliver candy to the children on Saturday because they will probably have eaten all of their candy from Halloween by then.

But the homeowner didn't deliver any candy, instead he posted the note on Kijiji saying he is looking for the author.

"Dear Children of Entitlement (and likely their parents)," starts the Kijiji post. "You have gone ahead and reminded me of why I do not want children, and why I weep for the future."

The homeowner says he was not home on Halloween and has bought a huge amount of candy, which he will enjoy with his friends on Saturday.

The retort from the homeowner was awesome. Next year, hand out condoms
      • try2laughoften 6 months ago
Why condoms? Are you suggesting that we encourage sexual activity among children?
      • SUSAN SUTTON 6 months ago
lol, condoms is going to far, maybe hand out a toothbrush or floss. I have an idea this whole candy thing was thought up by dentists!

No, I think he is suggesting those mindless parents stop having greedy little brats.

I didn't hand out candy either. My reason was my wife just recently passed away from cancer. Maybe this person also had a good reason and no one thought about that.

Same. My Mom died of Cancer a few months ago. She was the one who did Halloween.

I had a friend who bought candy for halloween , but his wife gave birth to her child just before dawn so he had to take her to the hospital. Needless to say he wasn't home to give out candy. She had a bouncing little boy and he got eggs on his truck windshield. I applaud the retort of the home owner.

More than you did Hector...Are you stupid or something?

he's trying to stand up for the fact that not everyone needs to participate in every single "tradition" that goes on every year.
      • RT Lee 6 months ago
I think he is standing up to the fact that the parents have no control over the kids nowadays and he wants no part of having and raising them.

The lady who lived there before gave him candy apples yet he's not allowed to take anything
that's not packaged? Make up your mind kiddo.
      • SS 6 months ago
althought I agree, I would think they knew the lady who lived there before him and trusted the apples she gave.
      • donny brook 6 months ago
obviously they would all know where a candy apple came from so if it was tainted they would all know who to blame.

People you know are more dangerous than strangers. Have you people learned nothing from the past?? Most cases of pedophilia/molestation and kidnappings and even the only case known where a child died from poisoned Halloween candy has been committed by a family member or "friend" of the family. What stranger just poisons a random kid's candy?

Wow, whatever happened to just saying thank you to those who handed out candy and leave the people who had to work that night alone ? Clearly your parents are not good examples nor role models if they condone this type of "entitlement".... Parents, grow up and stop encouraging your kids to become spoiled adults-shame on you !

I'm sure children who are young enough to go out trick or treating would be able to use words like 'rectify'.
    • steel134  •  6 months ago
What kind of a kid uses the word "rectify" in their writing? Parent clearly wrote this.

We are all individuals and can decide whether we want to participate in holiday traditions.
The kids should not have been encouraged to write this letter. This is a form of "bullying".
Kids get enough candy at Halloween without harassing the neighbours who don't give.
What are we teaching our children??????
    • ♥Just Me♥  •  6 months ago
NEVER would I let my kid send that out...ungrateful spoiled little brats! My kids are 6 and 8 and know the rule...if there is no pumpkin or no porch light, keep walking. I love his retort on Kijiji...enjoy your candy sir!! :)

When exactly did giving out candy at Hallowe'en become mandatory? The letter to this homeowner is beyond rude! Shame on these kids and their parents. And only a coward would leave a letter like this at someone's door and not sign it.
    • Brenda  •  6 months ago
I have kids, I love my kids and I hate to think someone would paint all kids with the same brush. But I think the children and or parents who wrote that letter are spoiled brats with an enormous sense of entitlement. I don't blame the homeowner for his response.
    • Chris  •  6 months ago
This starts with the parents who struggle to pay for and maintain their 3000 square foot homes that they feel they are entitled to and need...they buy these homes so their kids can be hidden in one end of the house where they raise themselves and be handed all the latest electronic gizmos and cellphones and pocket money...we then wonder why they become little entitled ingrate brats!! Sell the overly large home and work fewer hours and spend some time with those kids helping them to grow up into better people....just a thought

"Children of entitlement and their parents" -- exactly.
And here I thought it was a free country.

The children may be rude, but it's the parents who are teaching them their behaviour. Rude parents.

This is just like Christmas, a celebrations heritage being lost because of the greedy entitled children being raised. I say take away the gifts, candy and "me" attitudes. If you think this is harsh, I grew up poor and didn't get gifts for Christmas, a small stocking and a dinner that a local organization provided. I was greatful for everything. I grew up to respect those that have little, and although I now make a good living, I still do not buy big gifts or hand out mass amounts of candy. I donate to the local shelters/food banks and give a card to my family saying "this year your gift is that of food, you have donated to the (name) food bank/shelter, today you have made someones day brighter"
I am not saying abolish gifts, but we really need to teach as a society that its not all about what we receive, but that of which we give.

You can tell right away the letter was written by adult
    • rod  •  6 months ago
Instead of writing this letter, the parents of the children should have used the opportunity to teach their children a valuable lesson. The lesson being, they should be thankful for what they received, and accept it gracefully, after all it is free and they never had it to begin with. And, maybe they should'nt expect something for nothing.

The fellow could have been unemployed and found that his bills, his rent, his food, his gasoline was more important to spend his limited funds on. He could have been ill and needed the money for medication. He could be ignoring Hallowe'en for religious reasons.

The kids shouldn't be making demands about what kind of freebies they would prefer to have.
I see this letter as rude, selfish, self righteous, greedy and just plain ignorant.

Ignorant brats. think the world owes them something. well guess what kiddies. its does not. If I choose to hand out candy then fine. If I choose not to, also fine . Did it every occur to these little turds that maybe the home owner could not afford candy? or was ill, or maybe had other obligations. This note is neithercute nor appropriate . Real life is going to hit them hard. You are not owed a damn thing. Get used to it.

A kid didnt write this LOL give me a break...or better yet a kitkat
    • Karma  •  6 months ago
Talk about an over-inflated sense of entitlement! Little brats. And I bet you dollars to donuts that the parents helped them compose that piece of crap letter. That letter is neither funny nor entertaining.
As for the reference of "children in the hood" - is that moniker supposed to elicit fear that there will be retribution if he does not give out candy? I'm completely disgusted at the actions of these children and their respective parents.
And whoever taught them to spell should check again: it's Hallowe'en. Boneheads.
