A Florida high school student whose teacher started having contractions this week decided the best course of action, given the circumstances, was to pull out his phone and post a selfie on Twitter, with his teacher looking distraught in the background.
Coral Springs junior Malik Whiter smiles broadly in the photo that's been shared more than 20,000 times on Twitter this week, while his business teacher, Susana Halleck, is consoled by her mother over the phone, according to Local10.
Whiter didn't accidentally photograph the dramatic scene — he told Local10 that he wanted to document the moment because she's a "great teacher."
In response to one incredulous Twitter user, Malik confirmed that his teacher was in labour.
Halleck went to the hospital but she wasn't ready to give birth, according to the Miami New-Times, which reported she was back at work on Wednesday.
A columnist at the newspaper suggested the student's decision to take and post a photo of his teacher when she was so obviously in distress was inconsiderate, but not surprising among a young generation of Twitterers and selfie-takers.
