London, Ont., riots video footage of St. Patrick’s Day violence helps police

Riots broke out in the quiet college town of London, Ont., during St. Patrick's Day celebrations early on Sunday morning.

About 50 police officers in riot gear were called in to subdue the mob throwing beer bottles and reportedly torching vehicles. It was the worst case of civil disobedience he has ever seen, said London Police Chief Brad Duncan, according to 680 News. The violence grew near the city's Fanshawe College and involved about 1,000 people, most of them are believed to be students.

Cellphone videos of the events started circulating on YouTube shortly after. As they had done in B.C. last year, police are now examining video footage and social media websites to identify London riot participants.

You can see some of the video footage below.

And here is a look at the aftermath.

Doesn't it look like a small-scale scene of riots that swept through another London last year? There was also the time Canadians turned violent at the Stanley Cup game in Vancouver.

The unrest will cost London, Ont., an estimated $100,000, reports 680 News.
Multiple arrests have already been made and more are expected to follow.
