British couple wed 22 times around the world — and they’re not done yet

For most of us, one wedding ceremony is enough. Not so for Brits Alex Pelling and Lisa Gant. The love birds are currently touring the world, getting married everywhere they go.

After 22 wedding ceremonies abroad, they still have eight to go.

"The idea came as we looked for a place to get married before we left our lives behind to travel around the world for two years," the couple told the Daily Mail. "The wedding opportunities offered to us in the UK did not suit what we wanted, so we decided to look for the perfect place to wed while we travelled. After a glass of wine or two the idea grew, and we made a decision to have a small ceremony in every country we visited, with the local cultures and traditions in mind. At the end of our trip (which we have just extended to three years) we will choose our favourite place to officially 'tie the knot'!"

They told Travelbite.co.uk that they hope to visit 30 countries — and wed in each one of them.

Their ceremonies so far have included tying the knot among the dolphins in Hawaii, dressed as vampires in Los Angeles, on horseback in Banff, on an island in Honduras. They're chronicling their travels — and weddings— on their blog, 2people1life.com.

To fund their great wedding adventure, Alex sold the car-repair shop he owned and they sold their house. They adhere to a strict budget and live in a 25-year-old Dodge RV named Peggy.

After more than a year of living in close quarters, the couple claim that they're still as much in love as when they first set out:

"And probably more so! We are together 24 hours a day, seven days a week and live in a van. We arrange weddings, share the driving, split the blog workload and take it turns to make each other breakfast in bed every day," they told the Daily Mail.

"If there is anything that makes you know you are meant to be together it is surviving this trip without a single argument. We still get nervous before every single ceremony!"

They admit that these weddings aren't legally binding. They plan to officially wed at the conclusion of their trip — "We will pick our favourite place and go back to officially tie the knot," they wrote — incorporating elements from their 30 around-the-world ceremonies.

"We plan to hold a wedding in as many different countries as we can on our journey and our plan is to take something special from each wedding in preparation for our eventual wedding, where we will officially get married. That special thing may be a tradition, a dress, a ritual or just an idea - but they will all play a part in our final wedding ceremony," they shared with Travelbite.co.uk.
