Ontario teens return stranger’s wallet with $1,200 cash inside

Two West Perth teenagers found a wallet last Monday and turned it in - along with the $1,200 inside - to the grateful relief of its owner and praise of Perth Country provincial police.

Last July 19, contractor Jeff Horan lost his wallet in the town of Mitchell, Ont. After working at a rental property he owns in the town, he went to the bank to withdraw a mortgage payment. It was there he realized his wallet was missing.

"I must have left the wallet on my tailgate or somewhere on the vehicle," Horan told The Beacon Herald.

"I wasn't even aware I'd lost it until I got a call from the officer."

Around 3 p.m., an 18-year-old male and 16-year-old female saw a wallet and its contents strewn across a road and sidewalk nearby. They collected the money and brought everything to the West Perth OPP station in Mitchell.

The teens then returned to the area where they found more money with an officer. There they found another $100 bill.

Officers used the ID in the wallet to contact Horan, who was thrilled to discover nothing was missing.

"Your whole identity and everything is in your wallet," Horan said.

"The money, that was a bonus having it in there," he added.

Touched by their honesty, Horan plans to meet — and reward — his Good Samaritans shortly.

"I'm quite thankful for having honest people out there. I'm honestly still in shock, I just can't believe that it all was returned."

Perth County OPP will commend the teens for their actions.
