Boy, 6, dies in ATV accident on Saskatchewan farm

RCMP say a six-year-old boy has died and another child, a three-year-old, was injured following a farm accident involving an ATV.

RCMP identified the boy who died as Blaine Sanford and said the boy was operating the ATV on Friday night when the accident happened on a farm in the Rural Municipality of Frontier, in southwest Saskatchewan.

Details about what happened were limited, although many people in the community are active on social media sending messages of sympathy and support to the family.

A family friend, Andrea Peters, has used the gofundme.com site to launch a fundraising campaign to aid the family. She told CBC News Monday that the younger boy is named Rhett, a brother of the boy who died.

Her own son was a good friend to Blaine.

"He was a fabulous little boy," Peters said. "Full of spirit. Loved his hockey. Loved his family. Just the most outgoing, nicest six and a half year old you'll ever meet."

Peters said she doesn't know much about what happened but understands the ATV had a collision of some sort.

The Chinook School Division, also responded to the death.

"We are all very saddened by this tragic loss and the division has put counselling supports in place for the school community," Joanne Booth, the communications coordinator for the division, said in a statement.
