Cape Breton Police recover stolen Methadone

The Cape Breton Regional Police have recovered dozens of bottles of Methadone that they say was stolen from Sexton's Drugstore in Sydney Mines early Friday morning.

The police said someone broke in the business by smashing one of the windows around 5 a.m. When staff arrived on the scene, they realized the Methadone was missing.

Methadone is a synthetic opiate used to treat pain, as well as addictions to opioids, such as heroin, Dilaudid and Oxycontin.

The police called in the Community Safety Enforcement Unit, the K-9 unit and identification sections to investigate.

"Those members followed up on any leads and as a result of the leads and tips, last night they apprehended a 29-year-old-male who is from the Northside," said Staff Sgt. Mike Kennedy.

Kennedy said they also recovered most of the missing drug.

The man is in custody and will appear in court on Tuesday. The police said he'll be charged with possession with the purpose of trafficking, break, enter and theft, and possession of property obtained by crime.
