Chris Baur's family desperate to hear from him

Police have located the vehicle of a missing Winnipeg man but Chris Baur has still not been found.

The 36-year-old Baur was last seen at Sargent Avenue and Wall Street in the city's West End in the evening of Jan. 3.

His Toyota Yaris was recently found in the 800 block of Manitoba Avenue, in the city's North End.

In a statement, Baur's aunt, Kathy Levesque, told CBC their family is desperate for answers.

"We really would like to ask the public to come forward with any information that would help in their investigation. The police are working hard and will solve Chris's disappearance.
Devastation has hit our family hard. This is totally out of character for him. He communicated two to three times a day with family members. Always caring, committed and willing to help anyone in need. Never absent from work. He has been torn from our lives. Leaving a gaping hole in our hearts. Leaving us with a legacy of new phrases like ambiguous grief. How can anyone cope with this kind of loss. His car is home. A painful reminder that Chris is still missing. Please help us find Chris."

Winnipeg Police Constable Eric Hofley said so far the case is a mystery.

"We're talking about someone who hasn't got a history of this type of thing. Family hasn't heard from him in now over three weeks, coming up on four weeks. We have his car being located and yet still no sign of him", Hofley told reporters at a police news conference Thursday morning.

Hofley says Baur's car gave police no clues as to what happened to him. He says no keys were found in the red Yaris, which was parked on the front street on Manitoba Avenue.

Baur worked Casa Grande PIzzeria on Sargent Avenue. Staff say he's a nice guy, and they've been co-operating with police.

His picture and information is posted by the front entrance of the restaurant, to help get the word out to the public.

Police are concerned for Baur's well-being and anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.

Baur is described as six feet and 180 pounds with an average build, short dark hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black pants, black shoes and a black bomber-style winter jacket with a hood.
