Gas prices going up overnight in Toronto

If you need to fill up on gas, you should do so before the price goes up by two cents per litre overnight Thursday and then rises again on the weekend.

Dan McTeague of GasBuddy.com said by Sunday the price of gas could be eight cents more per litre than it is now. Why?

McTeague blames what's happening in the U.S., where abnormally cold weather has slowed production at three refineries, where 15 other American refineries are dealing with labour disruptions and where an explosion occurred at an Exxon Mobil facility in California.

He said there's also some disruption in the market as U.S. refineries start working on their summer blend of gas.

The slumping Canadian dollar, McTeague said, is also having an impact.
