When people think of their 'water footprint,' they tend to think of direct uses like drinking, cooking and cleaning. While those activities certainly represent a large part of an individual's daily water consumption, have you ever considered what went in to producing the chocolate bar you ate after dinner?

Shockingly, the production of enough cocoa beans and sugar cane for one chocolate bar is so water-intensive that it's roughly equivalent to showering for over 90 minutes.

In his book Your Water Footprint, journalist Stephen Leahy reveals some alarming numbers about just how much water is involved in the creation of the products you consume or use every day.
